School superintendent resigns, parents push for better pay for teachers and schools named to 'best of' lists.
What were the big scholastic stories that had the biggest impact on East Hanover and Florham Park this year?
The district eased kindergarten class size when parents pressured the administration to add another section for the young children. The nine-year-old Wilson triplets of Florham Park were so bright, they were inducted into MENSA.
School Superintendent Dr. Joseph Ricca was named as Citizen of the Year for his work with East Hanover students. Ricca received the honor around the same time he announced he'd be leaving the district for other employment.
Parents urged the Florham Park BOE to negotiate a contract with the district's teachers union.
Athletics weren't neglected this year. The Hanover Park Regional Board of Education appointed athletic administrators in 2013.
The district also earned some accolades. Hanover Park was one of 29 districts nationwide to earn standing as a District of Character. Hanover Park and Whippany Park High Schools were both named to Newsweek's top 2,000 schools in the country.
