Parent Petition Urges Florham Park BOE to Settle Teacher Contract

A Change.org petition begun by a few Florham Park parents demands the Board of Education give their teachers raises in line with other districts.

Parents of Florham Park students who are afraid their kids' teachers may begin looking for employment elsewhere have taken matters into their own hands. They've started a petition on Change.org that's garnered 200 signatures and demands that the Florham Park Board of Education settle the teachers' contract, which expired in June.

The teachers want to be paid at rates comparable to surrounding school districts, such as East Hanover and Hanover, according to a report in the Florham Park Eagle.

The union representing the teachers has argued that the teacher salary hikes wouldn't increase taxes, since money saved via staff retirements, reassignments and resignations is already in the budget and presumably hasn't been spent, the Florham Park Eagle story said.

The parents' petition, which they say they'll present to the superintendent and BOE after the holidays, can be found here
