Florham Park Budget to Be Introduced April 11

Council proclaims April 7-13 Barbershop Harmony Week; new volunteer fire fighter appointed.

The 2013 Florham Park Borough budget will be introduced at the April 11 meeting, Mayor R. Scott Eveland said.

Eveland said the council had considered introducing the budget during the council’s Thursday meeting. However, he said some members needed extra time to take a look at the budget in more detail.

“The finance team has been working on that,” Eveland said. “It’s all packaged up together. We just have to look at it with more detail as a full governing body.”

Before and after Eveland read the proclamation, members of the Morris County-based Four Old Parts barbershop quartet sang renditions of “Let Me Call You Sweetheart” and “Sweet and Lovely.” The quartet also sang “Happy Birthday” to Borough Administrator Bill Huyler.

“We should have you do a little intro for us at every council meeting,” Eveland joked.

The Four Old Parts are members of the Barbershop Harmony Society, which promotes a cappella barbershop harmony singing and celebrates its 75th anniversary this year.

“We would like to thank your honor and the council very much for doing a proclamation,” Four Old Parts tenor Terry Scullin said.

Volunteer Fire Fighter Appointed

Wilfredo Garcia was appointed during the council meeting as a volunteer member of the Florham Park Fire Department.

Eveland, who swore Garcia in, referred to the fire department as “the lifeblood to our town emergency services.”

“We are grateful to [Garcia’s] service and all of the volunteers we have on the fire department,” Eveland said. “That’s why I love having these appointments at our council meetings.”
