'Extra-Duty' Pay Could Rise for Florham Park Police

Proposal sets new rates for traffic control and security work requested by third parties.

The hourly rate paid to Florham Park police officers who perform "extra-duty" traffic control and security work for third parties will increase from $55 an hour to $70 an hour during normal hours, under an ordinance scheduled for hearing and vote Thursday.

The proposal also sets a higher rate for assignments outside the hours of 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., and on weekends and holidays, at $80 an hour. Work requested with less than 12 hours notice by the third party would be paid at $90 an hour.

The proposed ordinance says the mayor and Borough Council want to ensure the rates are in line with the rates in neighboring communities. It would not affect assignments that already are in place.
