Florham Park Sign Ordinance May Be Unconstitutional, Attorney Says

Issue discovered after mayoral candidate complained about the size of his opponent's campaign sign.

A Florham Park mayoral candidate's complaint over the size of his incumbent opponent's campaign signs has raised the question if the borough's sign ordinance is unconstitutional.

Republican Councilman Charles Germershausen, running as an independent write-in candidate, said GOP Mayor Mark Taylor's campaign signs are 24 square feet while the borough's ordinance limits signs to 16 square feet, according to NJ.com.

Florham Park attorney Joseph Bell recommends to ordinance be reviewed because it may infringe on First Amendment free-speech rights, the article said.
