Local Students Show Support for Victims of Hurricane Sandy

Whippany Park and Hanover Park students visit Manasquan.

On March 20, several local students took a trip down the shore to show their ongoing support for the Manasquan High School community.

Shortly after Hurricane Sandy devastated much of the Jersey shore region, students at Whippany Park and Hanover Park high schools joined together and adopted Manasquan High School with the goal of reaching out to those affected by the storm. Throughout the school year, WPHS and HPHS students held various fundraising events in order to purchase gift cards that could be donated to Manasquan families in need.

Last week, members of Whippany and Hanover student government visited and toured the Manasquan area. “We saw a lot of damage still remaining,” explains WPHS senior, John Goldberg. “Three blocks out from the beach there was sand an inch deep covering people’s lawns.”

A highlight of the day was the stop at Manasquan High School where students had the opportunity to meet Manasquan students. “If was nice just to hear their stories. It made it feel real what we were doing to help,” says Goldberg.
