East Hanover Student Artist Lands Spot in NYC Gallery Show

The exhibition features Jennifer Seo and other art students presenting knitted clothing as fine art.

If she can make it there, she'll make it anywhere: East Hanover resident and Pratt Institute student Jennifer Seo will exhibit work in Manhattan as one of 31 students chosen to have their work included in “Organic Matter: Woven Artwear by Pratt Fashion.” The show features Seo and fellow sophomore and junior fashion students who present knitwear—yes, knitted clothing—as fine art.

Free and open to the public, “Organic Matter” runs now through Jan. 28 at Gallery Nine, 44 W. 18th St. in New York.

The students worked exclusively with neutral-colored yarn to create wearable art for display on Pucci International’s high-fashion mannequins designed in matte grey. Of the more than 90 projects considered for the exhibition, Seo’s knitwear project consists of a unicorn head and dress outfit.

“Organic Matter” is a rare opportunity for sophomore- and junior-level Pratt students to create works of art for a commercial gallery. The show is a partnership between Pratt Institute and Ralph Pucci International, the world-renowned high-end mannequin, lighting, furniture, and sculpture company. Pucci, a Pratt Trustee, partnered with Pratt Fashion Chair Jennifer Minniti and Assistant Professor Susan Cianciolo to select the top projects. The yarns for the student projects were donated by Lion Brand Yarn.

Gallery hours are Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. To learn more, visit ralphpucci.net.
