Taylor Tapped for Florham Park Mayor

Thomas Michalowski also appointed to serve on Borough Council after two elected officials resigned days apart.

Florham Park's governing body appointed Council President Mark Taylor as mayor on Thursday night and appointed Thomas Michalowski to the council, filling vacancies left by the resignations of former Mayor R. Scott Eveland and Councilman David Wikstrom.

Taylor, who became acting mayor once Eveland resigned, had filed to run for re-election to his council seat, but will instead seek election to the remainder of the mayor's term, he said Thursday.

Thomas Michalowski, who had filed to run with Taylor as the Republican council ticket in November, was appointed to fill Wikstrom's council seat.

Now that Taylor is mayor, the governing body needs to fill his council seat, and the council is expected to appoint a new member at the April 25 meeting.

The governing body picks from names provided by the Florham Park Republican Committee. For the mayor's seat, the committee nominated Councilman Charles Germershausen and James D'Amico in addition to Taylor.

For Wikstom's council seat, the committee nominated Louis Bianco and Phil Infantalino in addition to Michalowski.

Tayor was sworn in on Thursday. Michalowski was not at the meeting.

Wikstrom and Eveland resigned on April 1 and March 27, respectively, citing a focus on their careers and families.
